How to import a file that does match CV's naming convention?

Post by 3s83 »

Hi, just started using this software and struggling to manually import or postprocess comics which have a different naming convention than comicvine's. While in the filename the issue name, issue number and issue year a present. An example:

Donald Duck 17-2022.cbr is not being recognized as issue 202217 according to comic vine. Is there a way to manipulate this, i.e. by using a file mask? Looking forward to any help. Thanks for developing this!

You have to either use metatagging in order to provide the correct CV information or you need to rename the files so they coincide to what CV has. Metatagging is generally easier as it's an automated solution and doesn't rename the files. But it does modify the files so that is sometimes not desired.

So no, no file masks - it's either filename or metadata typically.

Thanks for the swift reply. Is there a way (which I might miss right now) to automatically provide meta tagging? Or should it be included in the downloaded file already?

Generally speaking cbz files could contain metadata, cbr files will rarely if ever have metadata that's supported.

Mylar can only metatag items that it knows what it is - so without it being able to detect what the file is, either thru filename parsing or metadata, you wouldn't be able to use mylar to perform tagging, at least initially.

You can use comictagger to mass tag items which works fairly well (mylar uses a fork of comictagger), albeit it might be abit of manual selection as oppose to an automated aspect for some series (especially older ones as they are usually more problematic).
