Need help to get back on track

Post by anonymoez »

I have used Mylar before and it always worked like a charm, however I have bought a new NAS last year and wanted to give Mylar a go once more.
I'm using a Synology DS916 NAS and installed Mylar both in a docker (LinuxServer.io version) as well as the Synology itself through the package center. I can't get both installations te recognize my comic collection. At the moment I deleted the docker installation and am using the local Synology install.
I can access the webpage, but whenever I start a manual scan comic library it does not add any comics from that dir.
This is what the log states after the manual scan:

2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO [IMPORT-BREAKDOWN] Files that caused errors during the import: 0
2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO [IMPORT-BREAKDOWN] Files that were unable to be parsed: 0

2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO [IMPORT] Attempting to import 8109 files into your watchlist.
2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO [IMPORT] Parsing/Reading of files completed!
2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO CVINFO file located within directory. Attaching everything in directory that is valid to ComicID: 79990
2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO comlocation: /volume1/Comix/Darth Vader (2015)
2019-09-19 16:45:08 INFO cvscanned_loc: ['/volume1/Comix/Amazing Spider-Man Ends of the Earth (2012)', (followed by a couple of hundred more comics)

I'm totally stuck and can't figure out what to do next. Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Importing comics is a two-step process. The first step is to scan the directory from the "Manage" page, as you did. The second step involves clicking on the "Import Results Management" button that should appear when Mylar is done scanning your directory for comics. This will redirect you to a new page where you can choose what comics you'd like to import.

I'm assuming you'd like to import your whole collection, so there's a button in the upper right corner called "Mass Import", which will import all comics on the page.

Can you enable debug logging (either start Mylar with the -v option, or go into the Logs tab and enable verbose logging via the button in the right corner ?). Then paste that log after you do another import attempt if possible - the debug logs hold alot more info (and try to pull the log from the actual files, not the LOG GUI as the files actually have code reference lines so we can easily track things thru the logging).

One thing I will mention, with imports - you cannot import the files directly onto itself (meaning you can't have C:/Comics be the directory you're importing from and have C:/Comics be the destination directory you're wanting either) - at least you have to enable an option for that to work properly. If ithis is the case in the Import Management screen (before you start the import process) you need to:
- Uncheck Move Files
- Check Set import paths to series location paths
- Save Changes and Scan.
Doing the above will allow you to keep your existing library intact - mylar won't move anything, and will just point the db to the existing locations.

Of course if this is not your intent (although from the sounds of it, it might be) - we'll need to see the debug logs to help further as it could be anything after that.

I haven't been able to put time into fiddling so more with Mylar, up until now.

I also tried to add a new series. This works ok according to the log. It also shows up in my comic list, however the directory is nowhere to be found on my Synology, so I guess there's something not exactly right as far as the permissions go.
This is what the log shows after adding a new series (I just add a random comic from the weekly pull list):

The user running Mylar has to have full read/write/delete access to the given comics directory where you want your comics to reside. Synology tends to enforce things via there own software, so you should at the very least make sure that the Enforce Permissions option is not enabled within Mylar, and then confirm that the user running Mylar has the proper permission at the root of the given comic directory.
