Naming Conventions for Multi Issue Volumes

Post by kanine »

Sometimes when I get a collection that's a little older they will be in volumes.

eg Vol 1 will contain Issues 001-006 etc

Is there a correct naming convention here so that these issues don't show up as 'Missing' like My Fave Comic 001-006?

Unfortunately, that's not how CV tracks relevant issues, so you really can't track those accurately all as one specific series. So if you added the series as the non-TPB/GN/Compendium version of the series, then no there isn't really a way to track them as in that case Mylar will assume individual issues. There's no way for Mylar to know that 001-006 belongs to a specific series, and then track them both as if they were a single series as of yet at least.

However - if, on ComicVine, you can find the TPB/GN/Compendium flavour of the given series with the relevant issues therein you can track things abit better than nothing at all. So let's say you have Comic 001-006 as the filename.

If you already have the series Comic on your watchlist, then you'd need to search CV for any additional volumes to the series that might contain that numerical format.

So if Comic Super-Duper Collection is a TPB, which basically collect single issues from a series and puts them in one book, you would first add that to your watchlist.

Then you would either have to rename Comic 001-006 to follow the naming convention of the TPB series (so you'd rename Comic 001-006 to Comic Super-Duper Collection), or you would use the Alternate File-Naming option and put Comic 001-006 as the Alternate File-name in which case you wouldn't have to rename the file physically, so long as no other series on your watchlist would matchup to that Alternate Naming.

Once the files are scanned in and in a Downloaded Status for the TPB series, you'd flip back to the main non-TPB series and just mark the relevant issues as Archived (ie. issues #001-006).

So, not the easiest method to track such items, but given that a single file that spans multiple issues of a given series is basically a TPB/GN/Compendium, Mylar can track it if the correct volume is added to the watchlist.
